Solutions for the Transport and Other Industries

NLM focuses on product development that takes advantage of the lightness and processing characteristics of aluminum to satisfy the needs of the transport industry and other industrial sectors.

To contribute to load efficiency, driving performance, and fuel savings in the transport industry, the NLM Group promotes weight reduction in trucks and railcars by developing aluminum components and materials that take full advantage of the die design, large-scale extrusion, and aluminum processing technologies that are the Group's strengths. We also supply many chemicals and aluminum fabricated products used as basic material by customers in a number of other industries.

Contributing to improvement of Shinkansen train travel performance

N700 Series Shinkansen bullet trains have made fast, comfortable travel possible. For the double-skin railcar body structure adopted for these trains, aluminum extruded shapes filled with damping material in the cavity walls of truss-shaped cross-sections are used. Aluminum is also used for interior materials and covers for undercarriage equipment, contributing to railcar design that not only reduces weight, but also provides excellent sound insulation and rigidity.

Contributing to load expansion in transportation and laborsaving in materials handling

In the distribution and transportation sector, companies are pursuing load expansion and improvement in materials handling efficiency. In response to these needs, NLM has developed hinged drop side, floor materials, doors, and other components that combine lightness and functionality. For instance, thin yet highly rigid FG hinged drop side with an internal width of 2,410 mm for use in large gull-wing trucks make it possible to haul large loads safely. Also, safe, easily maintained distribution materials contribute to materials handling efficiency and laborsaving at countless worksites.

Containers and packaging materials that hygienically preserve food products

The world's only large aluminum containers made using the drawing and ironing manufacturing method are light in weight and offer excellent corrosion resistance, light-shielding characteristics, and cooling efficiency. For this reason, they have been adopted for use in large draft beer kegs for household use and small-diameter cans for sake. NLM also supplies aluminum foil products for food packaging and other products that hygienically preserve food products.

High performance materials to support wide-ranging industries

The chemicals manufactured by the NLM Group are used as essential high performance materials for applications ranging from pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals to electronic materials and vehicle on-board components. We supply customers in wide-ranging industrial sectors with caustic soda, inorganic chlorides, and organic chlorides manufactured using the ion-exchange membrane process and photochlorination techniques.

Large-scale extrusion technology

Nikkeikin Aluminium Core Technology has established an extrusion processing technology that simplifies the production of hollow parts and complex cross-section shapes that are difficult to achieve with other fabrication methods. The company applies a wealth of technical capabilities in casting, die design, structure analysis, and forming to satisfy requirements to expand the size of aluminum extruded materials and is able to manufacture solid materials up to 600 mm in width, hollow extruded shapes having a circumcircle diameter of 300 mm, and up to 25 meters in length in case of non-surface treatment extruded shapes.
