In the machinery, electronics, and communication fields, demand for lightweight aluminum with excellent performance characteristics is increasing in step with the product sophistication. NLM deploys an array of unique materials, designs, and processing technologies to create "aluminum that surpasses aluminum," delivering high added value in many market sectors, notably liquid crystals, semiconductors, solar cells, digital home appliances, and telecommunications equipment.

The development of high performance materials that support the evolution of mobile devices

The Group is developing materials that satisfy the required performance of a great many individual mobile device applications. For instance, we supply high purity alumina and low soda alumina, which offer high strength, excellent electrical insulation properties, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability, for use in liquid crystal and semiconductor manufacturing equipment and in the ceramic materials and parts of electronic components. We also supply aluminum sheet that combines excellent formability and weldability with controllable expansion for use in lithium ion rechargeable battery cases. Our high strength, high quality alumite sheet is used for the outer housings of digital cameras, mobile phones, personal computers, and other mobile electronic devices.

Responding to electronic device performance enhancement and multifunctionality requirements

The NLM Group supplies products that respond to needs for performance enhancement and multifunctionality in electrical and electronic devices. Anodized foil that can impart dielectric properties tailored to individual applications, a product made possible by an original chemical processing technology, supports efforts to enhance capacitor capacity and reliability. Photoconductive drums produced using ultra high precision processing and polygon mirrors that deliver superior reflectivity contribute to improvement in the printing quality of printers. Also, the etched circuit foil used in transit system and bank smart cards has contributed to the spread of convenient contactless smart cards thanks to a potent combination of high performance and suitability for mass production.

Facilities-related support for information and telecommunications infrastructure and product development environments

Information and telecommunication networks are critical infrastructure indispensable to business and day-to-day living. The NLM Group supplies free access floors for IT equipment storage rooms that deliver earthquake-resistance equivalent to that of steel floors while reducing weight by about 50% and electromagnetic wave absorption partitions that absorb wireless LAN radio waves. We also offer a range of shielding boxes and shielding rooms used for assessing communications equipment performance and quality at desks or in office environments.

Aluminum whose purity exceeds 99.9% is called "high purity aluminum."
